Designed by architecture firm Pfeffer-Torode who has created a number of our lake home plans, Fanny Goldmine Diner is their first commercial building for Russell Lands, and the result is quite impressive.
The diner’s name is derived from the nearby Fanny Goldmine Hill. According to The Alabama Review in January 1957, “This section of land belonged to the widow of an American Indian, and although the name implies that it was a mining property, it was not. The woman was told that to register her land in the proper manner, she would have to have an English name. From the settlers she had heard the name ‘Fanny,’ and having seen and liked the gold and mines at Blue Hill, she proceeded to register her land under the name of ‘Fanny Goldmine.’”
General Manager
J.B. Hampton is a familiar face to our community. Raised in Montgomery, Alabama, J.B. comes to Fanny’s from Kowaliga Restaurant. Over 11 years ago, he started his journey in the restaurant industry as a busboy at Kowaliga and worked his way up earning the title of Expo Manager. J.B. has rapidly gathered experience within the food and beverage industry—from brewing beer, to butchering, to sushi rolling, and all that falls in between. J.B. knew that his passion for serving was rooted on Lake Martin,
which is why he is excited to oversee Fanny Goldmine’s operations. His favorite dish on the menu is the Fried Bologna Biscuit, one of the most anticipated dishes to be offered.
When not spending time behind the restaurant’s doors, J.B. spends most of his time outdoors and around Lake Martin. He loves working outside and taking in the fresh air. He also enjoys cooking in the comfort of his own kitchen. His favorite items to make are his grandmother’s Crescent Cookies which are a spinoff of the classic Mexican wedding cookies.
